Bug with MKSWAP included on MFSLive cd

Postby ciper » Wed Mar 05, 2008 2:15 am

Spike I pleed with you to please replace the version of mkswap included on the cd with the one linked here
http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/attac ... 1117700311

The version included on the MFSLive cd will not work with a Tivo, I have now been bitten by this bug TWICE! Once on my Series 1 and now today on my Tivo HD (series 3 essentially). I can say with confidence it will also not work with an S2 so the CD is broken in this regard.

If you would like to read why this is needed start here http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showt ... post224878

Please? While you are at it how about the ability to enable mfssupersize on the cd as well? It seems MFSLIVE has been ignored for a while even though there are some Tivo fans who don't use Windows.

More data -

Using the MFSLive cd I ran mkswap /dev/sda8 then booted my Tivo HD. The kernel log shows

Activating swap partitions
Unable to handle swap header version 16777216
swapon: /dev/hda8: invalid argument

Using the same MFSLive cd I ran the mkswap binary I linked in my previous post mkswap -S /dev/sda8/ then booted my Tivo HD. The kernel log shows

Activation swap partitions
Adding Swap: 554992k swap-psace (priority -1)

Just wanted to say I was bit by this bug AGAIN! This time it caused me much wasted time.

Basically the swap wasn't created, I booted the system, ran clear and delete everything then did guided setup. Something failed during the C&DE with no swap which caused the TiVo to be unable to import guide data. It would crash and reboot after downloading the data.

Will the next version use the kernel extension for byte swapping or still the hacked IDE driver?

dm-byteswap kernel module won't compile with the latest kernel and I haven't got the time to debug.
You won't need it unless you want to mount a Series 1 Tivo and there's a work around already.
Weekend is almost over and I'd like to get it out soon so oh well, it's not going in.
