WinMFS Beta Release Support

Windows 7

Postby czoz » Thu Nov 12, 2009 11:26 pm

I wish to upgrade my Australian Tivo to 1Tb and also my desktop PC.

Will WinMFS work with Windows 7?

The 64-bit version or only the 32-bit version?

Thanks!

Does anyone know the answer to this? I would have thought it was a popular question?

Thanks!

Winmfs works on both.
You need to turn off UAC or right click on the program and select "run as administrator"

Success! (although I ended up using XP). My Tivo now has a quiet and cool 1 TB WD EVDS.

The only problem was that my 7 year old PC had no SATA ports so I bought a cheap Ritmo PCI card (AU$19) which had two SATA ports. Unfortunately this was a RAID card and I couldn't attach two SATA drives to it unless they were in a RAID array. However, a friend lent me a USB SATA external enclosure and that worked fine for the second drive.

One final point, after I had started copying I read that, "There are some new options now and you can copy to a file then restore back to the new HDD. Useful if you only have one spare SATA port." (at http://www.mfslive.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&p=6299)

This would have saved a bit of effort, although I am not sure how to access this "option"? Does anyone know for future reference?

Thanks Spike, WinMFS is a great tool!

Right click and "run as administrator" **UGH** - 4 hours later the entire process took me 15 minutes.

Thanks!
